1889, Oil on canvas, 28 7/8 × 36 3/4 in.
Vincent van Gogh used several elements to create the illusion of motion in his painting Wheat Field with Cypresses. For example he used directional lines in the wheat to give the illusion of wind passing through. He also uses repetition of stroke throughout the piece and in the sky to give the illusion of motion.

The Dance Class, Edgar Degas, 1874,
Oil on canvas, 32 7/8 x 30 3/8 in.
Edgar Degas’ oil painting, The Dance Class, gives the illusion of motion by using kinesthetic response; the dancing ballerina slightly to the right of the center of the piece, in particular, gives the illusion of motion, capturing a moment in time with her gesture. Degas also uses multiplication in this painting. Our eyes travel through the composition because we notice a pattern with the repeated image of ballerinas.
